The State Security Service (SSS) on Thursday night released Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters.
Mr. Sowore was arrested on August 3 for planning a series of protests to demand good governance.
He first met his bail on November 6, exactly one month ago, but he was not released. A federal judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu on Thursday morning in Abuja, gave the DSS 24 hours ultimatum for Mr Sowore to be released.
Adebayo Bakare who was also detained alongside Sowore was freed as well.
Their lead defense counsel, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN) also confirmed their release to newsmen. He said they were released at about 7 pm on Thursday.
Falana while confirming the development said the DSS also paid N100,000 fine to him as ordered by the judge.
