Barcelona Names Ernesto Valverde As Head Coach

The 53-year-old former Barcelona player, Ernesto Valverde, has been named as the new head coach of Barcelona.

Valverde, who had been in charge of Athletic Bilbao for the last four seasons, has signed a two-year deal with Barcelona.

Valverde stepped down from his role in charge of Athletic Bilbao last week having led the Basque club to seventh place in La Liga and Europa League qualification.

Valverde also had a two-year contract as a Barcelona player in the late 1980s and will now return to the Camp Nou after a 27-year absence

He has also managed Villarreal, Valencia and Barça’s city rivals Espanyol in varied coaching career that included two years in Greece with Olympiakos.
