Former Presidential Adviser, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, has mourned the death of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, in a plane crash on Friday evening.
The Bakassi leader in Cross River State, who described it as shocking and painful, prayed for the repose of his soul and others who died in the crash.
Ita-Giwa, who spoke with The Nation in Abuja on Saturday, recalled with sadness that the late COAS contributed immensely to the struggle for Bakassi.
“We recall how he fought for the struggle of Bakassi and we recall how he supported us in trying to establish our identity as a people,” she said.
Ita-Giwa commiserated with his family, the Nigerian Army, the Armed Forces and the country for the loss of a great Nigerian.
She said the demise of the Army chief was unfortunate, especially at a time when he was doing his best by finding solutions to the security challenges facing the country today.
She called for support for President Muhammadu Buhari and prayed to God to help him steer the country through these times.
“May God help the President and this country and strengthen Nigerians to survive these challenging times. We are all going through difficult times but by God, it will pass,” she said.
