Glamtush reports that the chairman of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Mustapha Adio, popularly known as Tafa Sego, on Monday said the assaulted female driver, Yetunde Amole, in the state, would get justice.
This news platform understands that Adio made this disclosure when he received the lady during a meeting at the union’s office in Oko Oba, Agege area of the state.
Amole, who arrived at the union headquarters earlier in the day, was warmly received and ushered into the chairman’s office.
Recall that the female driver was seen in a viral video being assaulted by a lout identified as Friday Onu in the Ajah area of the state last week.
According to her, Onu was trying to steal her vehicle’s battery when she caught and confronted him, but in turn, he launched a violent attack, beat her, tore her clothes, and dragged her.
The video gained the sympathy of Nigerians, with many condemning the action of Onu, who was suspected to be a union member.
However, the lout was arrested by the operatives of the Lagos State Police Command from the Maroko Division after the altercation with Amole and was later moved to Falomo Police Hospital due to illness.
The command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, said Onu would be charged in a court of competent jurisdiction as soon as police medical professionals declared him fit to stand trial.
Reacting, the NURTW boss said, “We will ensure that Yetunde Amole gets justice in this instance. This will serve as a strong warning to others not to harass any driver in the state.”
Sego further called on the public to respect the fundamental human rights of drivers while emphasising the union’s zero tolerance for any form of harassment against its members.
He clarified that the individual responsible for the assault is not a member of the NURTW, but rather a known area boy unaffiliated with the union.
Reaffirming the union’s commitment to professionalism, Sego emphasised that NURTW members have been trained to act respectfully and responsibly in their interactions with the public.
He also commended the Lagos State Government and Police Command for the swift arrest of the suspect, pledging the union’s full support in ensuring that justice is served.
