The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, has assured that the usual Apapa gridlock experienced by Lagosians will soon be a thing of the past.
Edgal gave the assurance during a townhall meeting which held recently at Apapa, Lagos.
The CP noted that the gridlock is a lingering problem caused by port reforms, road construction and activities generated by various tank farms located in Apapa and environs.
He added that a meeting of stakeholders which was attended by the Brigade Commander 9th Brigade, Sector Commander FRSC, Commandant NSCDC, General manager of LASTMA, Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers with jurisdictional responsibilities to the areas affected by the gridlock and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation Lagos State held on Wednesday, July 18.
The meeting was however adjourned to July 19, 2018, at 11am
But according to the spokesman of Lagos State Police (CSP) Chike Oti in a statement, the meeting was postponed to accommodate other stakeholders from the Nigeria Ports authority (NPA), NUPENG, Truck Drivers Union and the Shippers Council of Nigeria with a view to finding ways to ameliorate the traffic situation in Apapa and environs.
He thanked the people of Apapa for their patience, stating that in few weeks from now, they will heave a sigh of relief, urging them to exercise a little more patience.
Edgal further assures that all routes to and fro Apapa wharf are effectively policed by motorcycle and foot patrol teams of the Lagos Police Command to maintain visibility on all routes affected by Apapa gridlock and respond quickly to distress situations.
“In no distant time, the traffic palaver will be permanently addressed as all hands are on deck to finding solution to the problem,” he added.
