Anambra Police Command Flags Off Free Prostate Cancer Screening, Surgical Intervention Among Officers

 

 

In line with the resolve of the Inspector-general of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu to improve the welfare of the Police for effective service delivery through the provision of comprehensive health care facilities, the Nigerian police medical Services in conjunction with Stanley Medical Foundation and sponsored by Hon. Dozie Nwanlwo.

In a statement signed and sent to the National Association of Online Security Reporters, NAOSRE by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Haruna Mohammed noted that the flag off free prostate cancer screening and surgical intervention for all Police officers above 40yrs in Anambra State.

According to him, the programme kick-started at the Command Conference Hall, State headquarters Awka with a presentation on “Prostate awareness, symptoms and prevention” by Dr Tim Mbaeri a consultant surgeon from Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching hospital Nnewi (NAUTH).

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, CP John B. Abang thanked the Stanley Medical Foundation and other sponsors for choosing Anambra State Command as the pilot Command for this laudable initiative.

The CP further extended his appreciation to the Inspector-general of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, and enjoined all Police officers within the age brackets to avail themselves with this opportunity and go for the screening as a precautionary measure against Prostate Cancer.

Meanwhile, other dignitaries who graced the occasion include the Hon Commissioner for Health in Anambra State, Dr. Vincent Okpala, Coordinator Stanley Medical Foundation (SMF), Dr. Stanley Boniface, representative of Hon. Dozie Nwankwo, Ichie Ufoma Ojua and Hon. Dr Cater Dikeh Umeh, Chairman House Committee on Health ably represented by Hon. Tony Ngonadi.

Consequently, the officers proceeded to the Ultra-modern Police hospital Amawbia for the commencement of the Prostate screening as well as cholesterol and blood sugar testing.
