Algeria’s Desert Foxes defeated Senegal 1-0 in the final of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to emerge winners for a second time.
They won the trophy for the first time 29 years ago.
Algeria took an early lead through a deflected Baghdad Bounedjah shot in the second-minute lead and the Senegalese should have grabbed an equaliser in the 38th minute when M’Baye Niang’s shot went inches wide.
It did indeed wild jubilations for the Algerians when Alioum blew his whistle, after four minutes of added time, to end the 32nd edition of the continent’s number one football event.
Algeria midfielder Ismail Bennacer was named the tournament Most Valuable Player and Best Young Player.
Congrats to them!
