Aisha Buhari To Establish Cancer Screening Centres In Six Geopolitical Zones
First Lady, Aisha Buhari, has announced plans to establish modern cancer screening centres in each of the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.
She explained that the primary aim of the screening centres is to encourage women, especially those in rural areas to become aware of the disease and its debilitating effects.
Aisha added that one of the centres had already been established in Kano State.
The First Lady, who was represented by her Senior Special Assistant (Administration and Women Affairs), Dr Hajo Sani, stated these at the National Centre for Women Development in Abuja during the commencement of breast and cervical cancer screening for women to mark the Year 2020 Cancer Awareness Month on Saturday.
She said, “The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has concluded plans to establish state-of-the-art cancer centres in each of the six geopolitical zones. This is because every woman needs awareness on cancer and a reason to be screened.
“The centres will also take cognisance of rural women who might be living in ignorance about cancer awareness. Already, one of the centres has been established in Kano and Abuja will be included.”
The Director-General of NCWD, Ms Mary Ekpere-Eta, said Nigeria needed an integrated approach towards eradicating the disease.
