Nigeria’s Super Eagles have knocked out Bafana Bafana of South Africa 2-1 on Wednesday to qualify for the semi-finals of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria took the lead through Samuel Chukwueze in the first half in the 27th minute and looked the better team. However, a second-half header from Zungu sent Bafana Bafana level in the 71st minutes. The goal was looked at by VAR, new to the competition since the start of the quarter-final, but the referee says it was fair.
With the game looking destined to go to extra-time in the 89th minute, Troost-Ekong poked a corner home at the back post after goalkeeper, Williams, came out and missed with a haymaker to punch clear.
Nigeria is the second side in the semi-final after Senegal beat Benin earlier in the day.
