Adamawa Police Command Clarifies Report Of Threat Against Senior Officer

Adamawa Police Command has clarified the report of a threat against a senior officer.

Glamtush reports that Adamawa State Police Command has clarified o a trending threat story in social media against one of its officers.

In a statement signed by the spokesman of the Command, DSP Suleiman Yahaya, and made available on Friday to the National Association of Online Security Reporters (NAOSRE), the Police described the publication as an attempt to smear its integrity and therefore, urged members of the public to disregard such publication.

The statement reads in full, “The attention of the Adamawa State Police Command has been drawn to a misleading and fabricated publication with a caption, ” Police officer gives violence threats to a buyer of property near his Adamawa House.” The publication is nothing but a calculated attempt to smear the image of the police.

As a matter of fact, the command has not received any complaint of threat from one Mr Umeh as alleged in an online publication. The command has contacted the Senior Police Officer, DCP Ibrahim Baba Zango, an indigen of Adamawa state and found out that the allegations were not true.

To put the record straight, the police officer had an issue which is civil in nature on February 2, with his neighbour and being a seasoned and professional police officer, he instituted a direct civil action against the defendants before Upper Area Court in Jimeta.

But instead of Mr. Umeh to appear in court as expected, he went on social media and published false information just to attract undue sympathy and tarnish the good image of the force.

It is important to note that DCP Ibrahim Baba Zango acted in his capacity as a citizen and a neighbour by approaching a court for redress not as police or Northerner against Southerner as allegies but as a law-abiding citizen.

The police in Adamawa are friendly serving officers and cannot entertain civil cases. The command wishes to advise Mr Umeh to go to court and sort out their grievances with his neighbor and leave the police out of their civil matters.

However, the Commissioner of Police CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde commended Journalists for services being rendered and equally advised them to always verify their reports before disseminating it to the public.
