The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Matthew Hassan Kukah, has stated that the fielding of Muslim-Muslim tickets of Tinubu and Kashim Shettima by the ruling All Progress Congress (APC) was unacceptable.
Newsonline reports that the catholic bishop, Kukah said while it was the decision of the ruling APC to field any candidate of their choice for the 2023 general election, the people would have the final decision.
Bishop Kukah said he knows that Muslims would not accept a Christian-Christian ticket for presidential elections in the country even though it had made the same concession in 1984 and 1993.
Speaking on Channels Television Politics Today programme, Bishop Kukah said the decision of the APC is reprehensible and unacceptable.
He said: “But moving forward, the question I have asked my friends who are Muslims, especially those who are from northern Nigeria, is a simple question: ‘Would Muslims in Nigeria or northern Nigeria be ready to make the same concession that Christians made in 1984 and 1993?
“I think that as a Christian, this is totally reprehensible. It is not acceptable to me, but that is the decision of the APC as a party. Perhaps, when the campaign starts, we will hear what people have to say.”
Recall that Muslim clerics and Christian clerics alike had condemned the choice of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to choose Kashim Shettima, a former governor of Borno State as vice-presidential candidate.
Also, Nigeria’s secret service agency, DSS, condemned the ticket of Bola Tinubu, stating that such could trigger more attacks on Christians in the country.
