7 Tips To Stay Hydrated During Ramadan

Muslims all around the world are observing Ramadan right now. As we know, Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community.

They fast from sunrise to sunset abstaining not only from food and drinks but also from alcohol, tobacco products, and sinful habits as they stay devoted to salat (prayer) as well as recitation of the Quran.

However, it is inevitable not to feel thirsty when you’re observing a fast especially if you are involved in strenuous activities. So, how do you stay hydrated and also have enough water stored in your body before it’s time to break your fast during the Ramadan?

Well, there are a number of things you can eat and drink to keep you hydrated, which will make you not get thirsty. The aim is to keep the fluid in your body, and not lose it in any way.

Stop drinking coffee

If you’re a coffee addict and cannot wait to drink a number of cups at the predawn meal or at the nightly feast that breaks the fast, then, you should stop this habit until after Ramadan or better still cut down on your coffee intake. And that’s because caffeine makes one to urinate a lot, therefore making your body loses liquid instead of storing it. It is advisable to drink enough water to keep you hydrated.

Plain yogurt

Plain yogurt contains about 88% of water content; therefore, it is a great source of water, protein, and some important vitamins and minerals. It may provide hydrating effects, along with many other health benefits.

Eat tomatoes

Tomatoes are made up of 95% of water with numerous nutrients as well. They are juicy, sweet and may help keep you hydrated. You should add them to your meals or eat them raw if you can but ensure they are properly washed.

Drink coconut water

The water content in coconut is 95%. Therefore, it will help keep you hydrated during this Ramadan period. Drinking coconut water is especially helpful for hydration because it is not only rich in water but electrolytes as well including potassium, sodium, and chloride.

Make watermelon your best friend

To avoid getting thirsty in Ramadan, you should make watermelon your best friend this period. Juicy watermelon contains 92% water and refreshing to eat too, so it will help you stay hydrated. It is a refreshing fruit that also contains different nutrients. Each juicy bite has significant levels of vitamins A, B6, and C, lots of lycopene, antioxidants, and amino acids.

But if you don’t like eating watermelon and spitting out the seeds, then, you can make yourself a refreshing watermelon smoothie. However, choose watermelon with bright red flesh and the riper, the better and sweeter.

Cucumber too is ideal

Another way to avoid getting thirsty during Ramadan is to eat cucumber. Cucumbers are made up of 95% water and soluble fiber, which helps to increase hydration as well as help you meet your daily fluid needs. So, it will be ideal to add cucumbers to your list of fruits and vegetables to keep you refreshed and hydrated. It is important to note that the amount of water you actually ingest from the cucumbers you eat depends on your serving size.
