It’s a pity Lanre Gentry, hotelier husband of actress, Mercy Aigbe, would be returning to prison where he’d already spent six days pending when he’s able to perfect the bail conditions awarded him by the court’s magistrate.
He was last week sent to Kirikiri prison after failing to perfect his bail conditions due to the fact that all magistrates in Lagos were having a conference, thereby stalling his release.
The socialite businessman appeared before Magistrate (Mrs) O Aje- Afunwa Ogba of the Ikeja Magistrate court last Tuesday over charges of assault and domestic violence leveled against him by his wife, Mercy, and was granted bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in the like sum.
Aje-Afunwa also ordered that the sureties must show proof of tax payment and own a house in Lagos with title documents.
As at Saturday last week, words had it that friends and well wishers of Lanre were meeting to raise funds for his bail.
In the heat of their domestic crisis, Mercy accused her husband of constantly beating her while the man alleged that he discovered his wife was sleeping with different men outside her marital home. Both of them are denying the accusations.
Recall that the State Government waded into the alleged domestic violence after the actress reported her attack to the Lagos State Government through Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT).
The case was adjourned till July 12.
