Debutants Ilenikhena and Usor fired Nigeria to a 2-1 win over Madagascar in their first AFCON qualifier.
Glamtush reports that Nigeria’s Super Eagles began their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-1 comeback win over Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Friday.
The victory was made more significant by goals from debutants George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor, who scored in either half to overturn Madagascar’s early lead.
Madagascar struck first in the 16th minute when Ehsan Kari headed Madagascar into the lead beating goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.
The Super Eagles eventually drew level in the 45th minute through debutant George Ilenikhena.
The Al Ittihad forward finished off an Alex Iwobi pass before driving the ball into the net, hence, marking his senior Super Eagles debut with a goal.

The Super Eagles recorded 21 touches in Madagascar’s box early in the second half, compared with three by their opponents.
Madagascar came close to restoring their lead in the 51st minute, but Nwabali comfortably dispossessed Rayan Raveloson.
Nigeria coach Eric Chelle made his first changes in the 61st minute, bringing on Moses Usor and Moses Simon for Samuel Chukwueze and Akor Adams.
Usor made an immediate impact, scoring Nigeria’s second goal just minutes after coming on to put the Super Eagles ahead.
Chelle subsequently strengthened the attack with the introduction of Taiwo Awoniyi and Tolu Arokodare in the 69th minute.
The result gives Eric Chelle’s side a winning start to their Group L campaign.
Nigeria will next travel to face Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, September 29, while Madagascar will host Tanzania on the same day.
Nigeria sit second in Group L with three points, the same as leaders Guinea-Bissau, who are ahead on goal difference. Tanzania and Madagascar are currently without a point.
