Top Nigerian  Newspaper Headlines Today – 25th June 2026.

 

So, here are the top  newspaper headlines making waves across Nigeria today, 25th June 2026.

 

1. Foremost constitutional lawyer and human rights crusader, Professor Mike Ozekhome, has been relieved of the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). Ozekhome, a professor of law, was suspended from the SAN rank by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee, LPPC at its 173rd General Meeting.

2. The Federal Government yesterday directed financial institutions and designated non-financial businesses and professions to maintain full compliance with sanctions obligations by freezing the assets of terrorists financiers. The directive came against the backdrop of sanctions imposed on a Nigerian financier of ISIS, along with his three Bureaux De Change in Lagos and Kano, by the US government.

3. Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have uncovered and dismantled an industrial-scale clandestine methamphetamine laboratory in a forest at Tapa Village, Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State, arresting a Mexican national and four Nigerians linked to the operation.

4. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and National Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, urged party members to prepare for a fierce political battle ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that political power is never given but taken through struggle, sacrifice and hard work. Addressing the PDP’s 109th National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting in Abuja, Wike told party faithful that opposition politics demands resilience.

5. The Naira on Wednesday depreciated to N1,385 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,380 per dollar on Tuesday. Likewise, the naira depreciated to N1,389 per dollar in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market, NFEM.

6. Tragedy struck on Wednesday morning when a five-storey building under construction collapsed along Odili Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, leaving one person dead and several others trapped beneath the rubble. As of 7:30pm, rescue operations were still ongoing, with victims, including the site engineer and a woman who sold food to construction workers, believed to be trapped in the debris.

7. Suspected bandits have killed the Chief Imam of Kuda-Kuda village in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The cleric identified as Liman Audu was killed alongside three persons, while others were abducted during the attack which happened in the early hours of Wednesday.

8. President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Wednesday swore in four newly elected senators following their victories in the recent by-elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The lawmakers are Ikeje Asogwa, representing Enugu North Senatorial District; Olaka Nwogu, representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District; Dayo Faduyile, representing Ondo South Senatorial District; and Danladi Envulu-Anza, representing Nasarawa North Senatorial District.

9. A Sokoto State High Court has sentenced three men, including a Nigerien, to death by hanging, following their conviction on charges of terrorism and arms proliferation. The convicts, Yusuf Muhamma, a Nigeriene, Jabbi Alhaji Yalle, and Kabiru Muhammad were apprehended on 13th June, 2025, by the Department of State Services Counter-Terrorism Unit in connection with cross-border crimes, arms trafficking and terrorism.

10. The Imo State Police Command has identified six police officers captured in a viral video allegedly assaulting a young man in the Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state and has commenced disciplinary procedures against them. The incident, which occurred at Nduhobokwe, Uzoagba community, on Monday, gained public attention after a video of the assault circulated on social media.
