Iyabo Ojo’s ‘The Return of Arinzo’ has grossed N104.8m, as it becomes the highest Easter opener.
Glamtush reports that Nollywood actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has announced that her latest film, The Return of Arinzo, has emerged as the highest-grossing movie of the Easter weekend at the Nigerian box office.
The mother of two disclosed this in a post on X on Monday, revealing that the film grossed N104.8m in its opening weekend, breaking multiple records.
“Thank you, everyone, for the love you showed us. TROA opens with N104.8m, breaking multiple records in just one weekend.
”Highest grossing Easter weekend performance, biggest opening for a Nollywood sequel. This was only possible because of you,” she wrote.
The film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, also confirmed the milestone in a post on Instagram, describing the movie’s debut as a strong statement at the box office.
“₦104.8M in its opening weekend, biggest Easter opening, and the highest-grossing film of the weekend,” the distributor said.
FilmOne added that the film’s performance reflects strong audience connection and support across West Africa.
“But beyond the numbers, this is what it looks like when a story connects… when people see themselves on screen and show up for it. West Africa, you didn’t just watch, you showed up… you filled the cinemas,” it stated.
The Return of Arinzo is a sequel to the 2013 Yoruba blockbuster Arinzo, which explored themes of crime and personal transformation.
The original film was directed by Abiodun Olanrewaju and Muhydeen S. Ayinde, and featured a mix of Nollywood and Ghallywood actors.
