The Enugu Police has enforced a total ban on fireworks and promised stern penalties for violators.

Glamtush reports that the Enugu State Police Command has reiterated its ban on the sale and unauthorised use of fireworks during the festive season, warning that violators will face prosecution.

This online news platform understands that the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, restated the directive in a statement issued through the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, late Monday night, emphasizing that the measure is crucial for public safety.

“We are reiterating that the sale, purchase, and use of fireworks, commonly known as knockouts or bangers, remain banned across the state,” CP Giwa said.

He explained that the ban is intended to prevent criminals from exploiting fireworks to commit offences or create panic, stressing that “anyone caught violating this order will face the full weight of the law.”

The commissioner also urged parents and guardians to caution their children against using fireworks, noting that enforcement teams will ensure strict compliance throughout the yuletide period.

In addition, Giwa condemned the rising incidence of bush burning during the harmattan season, describing it as hazardous.

“Bush burning at this time of year is not only reckless but also poses serious risks of fire outbreaks that can endanger lives and destroy property. Offenders will be duly prosecuted,” he warned.

The command appealed to residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security personnel, and promptly report suspicious persons or activities.
