Police probe into the Anambra corps member assault has been stalled by the victim’s absence.

Glamtush reports that the Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the assault on a National Youth Service Corps member, Jennifer Elobor, by members of the state security outfit.

It stated that the ongoing investigation into the assault and public stripping of Elobor by vigilante members has been hampered due to her failure to appear.

The Command stated this in a statement on Tuesday, issued by its Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga.

In a video that went viral on Tuesday, the operatives armed with guns stormed the corps members’ lodge, accused them of being internet fraudsters despite showing their identification cards and uniforms.

The operatives were seen beating the female corps member despite her cries for help.

In the process, her clothes were torn, leaving her exposed.

Despite this, the operatives in number continued to beat the female corps member.

In the video, the corps member was seen begging the security operatives to stop as they continued to hit her.

The attack has, however, triggered outrage on social media, with many Nigerians condemning the actions of the vigilante group and demanding justice for the victim.

The state police command disclosed that the suspects involved have been identified and arrested.

The statement read, “The Command notes that the alleged victim’s unavailability has temporarily stalled the ongoing investigative process.”

The Command, however, reiterated that assault in any form remains a criminal offence under the Nigerian Law and that it reserves the right to take necessary legal action to aid the court proceedings while waiting for the victim.

“The Command hereby reassures Corps members serving across the State of its unwavering commitment to their protection, urging them to always report incidents of harassment, intimidation, or abuse for prompt intervention.

“The Command further cautions vigilante groups and other quasi-security outfits against acts of brutality or abuse of authority, warning that any such misconduct will not be condoned,” the statement added.
