‘I’m The Head Of Nigerian Delegation,’ Tinubu Tells Obi, Fayemi At Vatican

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian newspapers.

1. The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has reaffirmed that all versions of the naira, including the old and new designs of the N1000, N500, and N200 notes, as well as the commemorative and previous designs of the N100 note, remain valid legal tender without any expiration date.

2. The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Mr Ahmed Dangiwa, on Friday, urged owners of Federal Government owned lands and houses in Lagos State to remit their ground rent to the government’s coffer. Dangiwa said this during a stakeholder-citizens engagement on land administration and a physical assessment of Banana Island, Osborne Phase One and Two, Park View/ Foreshore estates and shorelines.

3. Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the commissioning of a $315 million oil production and storage facility in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The facility, acquired by Nigerian-owned Oriental Energy Limited, underscores the growing global footprint of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

4. Commercial motorcyclists have reportedly attacked police officers at a police station in Oka-Akoko, Akoko South West council area of Ondo State. They accused the police officers at the station of shielding a commercial driver who drove recklessly and destroyed the motorcycle of one of their colleagues.

5. The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Monday, vacated the judgement that barred the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, from releasing monthly statutory allocations to Rivers State. A three-member panel of Justices of the appellate court, in a split decision of two-to-one, held that the Federal High Court in Abuja lacked the requisite jurisdiction to entertain the lawsuit that led to the restraining order.

6. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Tajuddeen Abbas, governors, senators, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and nephew of the former president Muhammadu Buhari, Mamman Daura, were among the dignitaries who attended the wedding fatiha of the children of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I Jibrin.

7. Afe Babalola’s law firm has petitioned the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, LPDC, seeking the removal of Dele Farotimi, a lawyer and human rights activist, from the roll of Nigerian legal practitioners. The firm in a 90-page petition dated December 6, 2024, and signed by Ola Faro, a partner in the firm, alleged that Farotimi violated certain provisions of the rules of professional conduct for lawyers.

8. A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, in the sum of N500 million following his money laundering charges. Justice Emeka Nwite on Friday granted the bail after listening to the arguments of lawyers in the matter.

9. Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested a suspected online fraudster, Osang Otukpa, for allegedly duping 139 Australians to the tune of $8,000,000. Otukpa was arrested at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos upon arrival from the United States of America on Friday, December 6, 2024.

10. Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the death of a husband and wife in a midnight inferno at Rangaza (Inken) Layin AU, the Ungogo Local Government Area of the state. The service named the victims as 67-year-old man, Muhammed Uba, and his wife, 52-year-old Fatima.
