1. Some Deposit Money Banks on Saturday opened their branches to customers for the purpose of collecting old N500 and N1,000 notes for deposit into their accounts. This was contrary to the claim by the Central Bank of Nigeria that it did not instruct the banks to continue to collect the old notes from depositors.

2. Less than one week to the end of campaigns for the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission has revealed that it is compiling the names of candidates and political parties engaged in verbal attacks during the campaigns.

3. Ten states have filed an application before the Supreme Court seeking the nullification of President Muhammadu Buhari’s pronouncement that only N200 should be re-circulated as legal tender, effectively banning N500 and N1000 notes.

4. The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has said that only the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) members are authorised election officers to handle the Bimodal Voter Authentication System (BVAS) during the February 25 and March 11 general elections. He said the move is to ease the tracking of the officer.

5. The South-East Council of Traditional Rulers has urged its subjects and all residents of the South-East to ignore any sit-at-home order and massively go out to vote for their preferred candidates. The outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has threatened to cripple elections in the region.

6. No fewer than three police officers were killed when gunmen attacked the Ogidi Area Command of the Nigeria Police in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. It was gathered that the masked hoodlums invaded the police facility in large numbers in the early hours of Saturday.

7. Property worth millions of naira were burnt down in Idanre community, Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State on Saturday evening, when a tanker carrying petrol fell and caught fire. It was gathered that the fire razed down a filling station and a building beside it was also affected. However no life was reportedly lost.

8. Both presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party, Peter Obi have been described as hypocrites for supporting the naira redesign policy of the federal government. The spokesperson of the Tinubu-Shettima presidential campaign committee in Osun State, Engineer Remi Omowaye said this in an interview on Saturday.

9. In a bid to fight the financial crisis arising from the new Naira notes swap, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it is ready to clamp down on Nigerians who are trying to sabotage the efforts put in place by the CBN. The Chairman of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, made the pronouncement on Saturday in Nasarawa.

10. Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has said that not all the operations for the conduct of the February 25 and March 11 general elections require cash. He said this yesterday in Abuja, after a tour of the training centre for INEC’s ad-hoc staff and inspection of facilities at the national collation centre at the International Conference Centre (ICC) Abuja.
