If you have ever flipped through magazine pages or scrolled down Instagram looking at fashion posts and gorgeous outfits on fashion shows, chances are you wanted to look just like that.
Although it looks effortless and easy, a lot of thinking goes into putting together an outfit like that, which is why we decided to share some of the tips and rules from fashion designers.
Layer, layer, layer
It can get tricky to use many pieces and create a well-composed outfit from those. For starters, it is best to stick to minimalistic layering style, which means using lots of same colors and classic pieces. Depending on what you like, you can opt for different fabrics, especially for monochromatic looks. For example, a black shirt, under a sweater, and a leather jacket on top. Or you can combine the same fabrics when wearing outfits that include coats and scarfs. Make sure they are not both too thick and heavy because it will look bulky, and not in a good way. Another tip is to use oversized scarves because they give the illusion of layers, especially when you wrap them around more than once.
Using statement pieces
A great way to spice up any outfit, even if it is the most basic one, is a statement piece. There are a few of those you should have in your wardrobe that will go great with many looks for different occasions. For colder months a fur item will make any look more elegant, fashionable, and sophisticated. It can be a short fur coat, but make sure you get it in black, brown, or beige since they are the easiest to style. A pop of color would be the next suggestion, for a bold and unique look. This season, yellow, red and green are very trendy, so you can try with those colors, and get a purse, shoes or even a coat that will make any outfit stand out. A scarf, mini round bag, or even sunglasses with animal print will also do the trick.
Never enough of classic, timeless pieces
On a daily basis, classic pieces are what we love the most, whether it is for a dinner date, work meeting, or a casual walk. Creating a capsule wardrobe is great advice to ensure you have clothes that are always going to be stylish. Some of those are Levi’s dark wash jeans, Burberry trench coat, Realisation Par dress, and basic white shirts, black pumps, and leather purses. You can match them to any of the statement pieces for a more glam look, or create a whole outfit with just those classic pieces, and still look stylish. Denim and leather jackets, white, black or grey t-shirts, pencil skirt, and white trainers are some other items that almost every fashionista has in her closet.
Embrace the athleisure trend
If you haven’t heard of the athleisure trend, it basically means incorporating activewear into your daily, outside of the gym outfits. Every fashion blogger, stylist, and creator has come to love this trend because it looks casual, yet trendy, and it is comfortable. Wearing sports shoes with sweaters, leather jackets, and even dresses, and skirts is a great way to achieve this look. Borrowing a hoodie from your boyfriend and pairing it with black jeans, and the same shoes, why not! And if you want simpler, less obvious pieces, you can always go with leggings, or even a sports hat to give you the casual, comfy vibe.
Mix and match
For the bolder among you, who are not afraid to step out of the frames, a trend of mixing prints and patterns will be perfect. However, you should stick to some rules when doing it. Choose similar colors when you do different prints because it will look stylish, not chaotic. If the print is a bit more subtle, like a checkered pantsuit, you can go for a more elaborate print on the blouse or sweater you are wearing underneath. Don’t be afraid to mix florals, just make sure that all the pieces have one central color to tie the whole look.
With so much advice from fashion editors and versatility of clothing and styles, it is not hard to always look trendy and chic, and dress like you just attended a fashion week show.
