5 Best Jobs For New Moms

Even though taking care of a newborn is already a full-time job, there are many women who feel the need to go back to work as soon as they can so they can start feeling “useful” again by providing for their family. True, taking care of your child is extremely rewarding, but it’s still a job that doesn’t exactly get paid – at least not in money.

However, working while taking care of your kid does come with certain limitations in terms of time and location of your job options. Luckily, there are many jobs that allow flexible work hours, and there are even more jobs that you can do from the comfort of your own home. With that in mind, if you’re a new mom interested in going back to work, here are five jobs you should consider.

Tutor

Education is one of the most popular fields of work out there, so if you have a certain skill that you can and want to teach, you should definitely consider tutoring. You can teach kids geometry, trigonometry, foreign languages, or how to play a certain instrument. Also, it allows you to work whenever you have the time, it wouldn’t take too much preparation, and the best of all – you can do it at home. You can do it locally and have students come to your place for their classes, or – if you’re more tech-savvy – you can even do it online through Skype and similar apps. You might need an actual degree if you want to turn this into a career and hold classes online, but if you’re only looking for a side job, the only things you need are good knowledge of what you want to teach, and love for children.

Online jobs

Besides tutoring, there are many other online jobs you could do. For example, if you’re short on time, you could get paid to take surveys online. It usually takes 15-20 min, and you can do it whenever you want, from any smart device you have. Plus, you might even get some special coupons for shopping. On the other hand, if you’re creative and love writing, you could become a freelance writer. What’s great about this job is its potential – it can be just a way to get some extra income, but it could also be a full-time job, depending on your free time. If you do like writing, but you want to write only about the things that interest you, perhaps you should become a blogger. It might be a bit harder to earn money right away, but if people like what you have to say and can identify with you, it could turn out to be quite a lucrative job.

Daycare center employee

If you love children more than anything and happen to be excellent with kids, you should think about working at a daycare center. Many daycare center employees work part-time, which means that you’d have enough flexibility to take care of your other obligations. However, the demand for good employees is rather high, so keep in mind that you’d have quite a competition.

Life coach

One of the best skills moms acquire during parenting is giving good advice. So, if you consider yourself to be a compassionate person who is a good listener, can see things objectively while understanding different points of view, and loves sharing her knowledge gained through many years of experience – this might be the perfect job for you. Such a skill can help many people turn their life around, and there is no certification needed; the only things you need are patience, the above-mentioned character traits, and a desire to help people who could use some guidance.

Interior designer

When it comes to interior design, self-employment is quite common. You could work in a smaller company or on a contract basis, which would allow you the scheduling flexibility. However, as with many other creative fields, the competition is quite high. Nevertheless, if you have a sense of fashion and you love decorating homes, there’s no reason not to pursue your passion.

Becoming a parent does not mean that you have to forget about your career; there are many fun, interesting, and rewarding jobs that can be done without sacrificing much of your time or energy. So, think about your skills and passions, do some research, and you will surely find a job that will fit your needs and wishes.
