40-Year-Old Man Bags Life Imprisonment For Attempted Murder In Ekiti

 

 

 

 

An Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti Division, has sentenced a 40-year-old man, Adedara Aladesugba, to life imprisonment for attempted murder.

Aladesugba was tried on three counts of attempted murder, acts intended to cause grievous harm and assault occasioning harm.

In the judgment, Justice Oluwatoyin Abodunde said, “The accused is found guilty on all the three charges and accordingly, he is sentenced to life imprisonment on counts one and two, while he is sentenced to three years’ imprisonment on count three. All the sentences are to run concurrently.”

The charge read in part, “The act was committed on or about August 26, 2017 at Aramoko Ekiti, when Aladesugba attempted to murder, intended to cause grievous harm and occasioning harm on one Okere Olusesan contrary to sections 320, 332 and 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria, 2012.”

The victim had in his testimony stated that he and the convict were siblings, saying, “On the fateful day, the accused trailed me to my house. He beat me mercilessly before cutting my stomach with a piece of broken bottle following which I was rushed to a hospital for treatment and safety.”

To prove his case, the prosecutor, Bola Oyewole, called four witnesses and tendered exhibits, including a petition to the Commissioner of Police, photographs of the victim’s stomach, medical report, and statement of the accused.

The convict, who spoke in his own defence through his lawyer, Yinka Opaleke, called no witness.
