A 36-year old man, Peter Moses, has confessed that he actually raped and impregnated his 17-year old daughter but pleaded for forgiveness over the dastardly act.

According to P.M.Express Moses made the confession before an Ore Chief Magistrates’ Court when he was arraigned on a two-count charge bothering on unlawfully having carnal knowledge of his daughter.

He was said to have committed the offence between November 2020 and January 2021 at Asewele Korede Camp via Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The charge sheet read: “That you Peter Moses, on the between November 2020 and January 2021 at Asewele Korede Camp via Ore in the Ore Magisterial District, did unlawfully have sexual intercourse with your daughter, 17 and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 31 sub-section (1) and punishable under section 31 sub-section (2) of Part 3 of Child’s Right Acts of Federal Republic of Nigeria 2003″.

“That you, Peter Moses, during the same period, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District did sexually abuse your daughter by having sexual intercourse with her and gave her four months old pregnancy, thereby committed an offence contrary to section 32 sub-section (2) and punishable under section 32 sub-section (2) of Part 3 of Child’s Right Acts of Federal Republic of Nigeria 2003.”

The Prosecutor, Inspector Jimoh Amuda, told the Court that the Police have commenced proper investigations into the matter. He asked the Court for an adjournment to enable the Police to complete investigations and seek legal advice from the Ministry of Justice.

The defendant, Moses, however, pleaded guilty to the two charges preferred against him but asked the Court to temper justice with mercy.

The Presiding Magistrate, F.O. Omofolarin, ordered his remand in Correctional Centre pending the outcome of the DPP’s legal advice and adjourned the case till February 21, for mentioning and for the report of the DPP to be ready.

The defendant may spend several years in prison custody if he is tried for the alleged offence and found guilty before the Court as it is a capital offence under the law.
