286 Women, 43 Men Suffered Domestic Violence In Four Months – Lagos Govt
The Lagos State Government says 286 women and 43 men have been victims of domestic violence between January and April this year.
Mrs Cecilia Dada, the Commissioner for Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, said this during the ministerial press briefing on Tuesday in Alausa, to mark the second year in the office of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“In 2020, 46 men were violated, while 378 women were violated. I must mention that this is the report of the Ministry of Women Affairs. Some people go to the Ministry of Justice while some go to the police. In 2021, from January till date, we have 43 men report gender-based violence issues, while we have 286 women,” she said.
Dada lauded Sanwo-Olu’s administration, saying in the last two years, the administration had rescued about 48,000 households from poverty through its social intervention programmes under which women got cash transfers and acquired skills.
She added that WAPA would start exposing its trainees to the use of technology and also enlighten women on newer practices in vocational training.
“In view of this, there will be training of 500 women on entrepreneurial and digital marketing techniques come June 2021, as part of plans to mark this year’s International Widows’ Day.”
