Glamtush reports that Nigeria’s Super Falcons on Monday played a goalless draw against the Republic of Ireland to advance to the Women’s World Cup knockout stage.
The Nigerian female team advanced to the knockout stage with 5 points garnered from two draws and one win.
The Super Falcons shared points with the Republic of Ireland to progress to the round of 16 following a draw against Canada and a stunning win against Australia.
Randy Waldrum’s team needed a draw to be sure of the next round passage irrespective of the result between co-hosts Australia and 2020 Olympic Champions, Canada.
They also made history by avoiding defeat in three consecutive World Cup matches for the first time.
Before the game, Nigeria leads Group B with four points and a goal difference ahead of Canada who also have the same number of points. Australia was third with three points.
But Australia topped Group B with six points after thrashing Canada 4-0 to secure a place in the last 16.
