2023: Jonathan Knows I Won’t Support Him If He Gets APC Ticket – Wike
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, says he will work against ex-President Goodluck Jonathan if the latter gets the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress in the 2023 general elections.
Wike stated this in an interview with BBC Pidgin this weekend in Port Harcourt.
According to the governor, who is a chieftain of the PDP, party interest was his priority and not ethnic interest.
Speaking during the interview, Wike said, “I am from the Southern part of Nigeria. I will be happy if power returns to the South, but if PDP will win the 2023 presidential election by zoning the presidential ticket to the North, I will not be opposed to it.”

“If President Jonathan is given the All Progressives Congress presidential ticket, he knows that I will not support him. I will not engage in anti-party activity. Even if he is from the South, I will not endorse him. What is paramount is my party’s interest,” he added.
Recall that Jonathan, who is from the South-South region as Wike, had won the presidential seat on the platform of the PDP in 2011 but lost his re-election to APC’s Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.
Constitutionally, Jonathan is entitled to another four years as president. Some APC bigwigs had also visited Jonathan of recent but the former Bayelsa State governor had since said he had no interest to run again in 2023.
