European Union Observers have released an official statement on the just concluded presidential and National Assembly election, saying INEC lacked efficient planning and transparency.
The EU Observers noted that INEC’s operational capacity was hampered by fuel scarcity and naira scarcity. It was also stated that insecurity prevented the electoral commission from accessing some local governments, especially in the Southern region, and also hindered preparations in the areas.
INEC was however accused of refusing to enforce sanctions for electoral offences and for financial breaches, and also lacking efficient planning and transparency during critical stages of the electoral process.
